How to Host a Comedy Show
This equal a brief write-up on how to host a comedy display .
Get them to behave as a grouping
Your principal object is to make a room entire of individuals to act as a single radical . To do that ,get them clapping/wooing together three times .If you have the audience making noise right from the start it will reach them sense less self conscious about laughing later .
“ How ’ s everybody get tonight ? ”
” Wooooo ! ”[ 1 ]
” We can act better than that . How ’ sec everybody doingtonight? ! ? ”
” WOOOOOO ! ”[ 2 ]
You might think this is hacky , but no one care . The audience wants to own a fun time . The comedian want a hot room . Management wants everyone to buy more plate of mozzarella stick and glass of Chard . No one live die to think your welcome is hack .
Talk to Some of them
This may seem counterintuitive pay the “ behave as a radical ” note above , but getting to know a few specific audience members will serve draw people out of their shell . It ’ ll also produce organic initiative for you to make a few jokes early in your hosting set , which gets everyone used to hearing the rhythm of jokes . And…it ’ ll get people applaud together a few more sentence . Hither ’ s how I do it :
Initiate a conversation. I commence with universal topics like geography .
“ Do some noise if you ’ re from out of town ! ”
” WOOOOO ! ”
Single out someone who clapped/wooed and lecture to them . You put on ’ tgetto build a joke , but it will assist get them laughing organically .
” Where are you from , sir ? ”
” Mississippi . ”
[ to interview ] “ Pay it up for Mississippi… ”[ 3 ] “Cost this your first visit north of the Mason-Dixon Line ? ”
You could delay on geography— ” Anyone else from out of town ? ” “ Anyone from another area ? ” “ Anyone from a Union state ? ” —or you could move on . You can guide the conversation toward a subject for which you already have material . I have cloth on being married , so that ’ s where I run next .
“ Create some noise if you ’ re married ! ”
” WOOOO ! ”
” How long get you make up marry , escape ? ”
” 22 yr . ”
[ to audience ] ” Give it up for 22 years ! ”[ 4 ]“ To the same soul ? ” or “ What ’ s the key to build it 22 years ? ”
” Open communication . ”
” That ’ s a good 1 . For my wife and me , it ’ s having a nice even division of labor . At home , I do all the jokes , she makes all the money . ”

Cover House Rules
Depend on the society , you may take to cover some theater rules . I frequently host at Bananas Comedy Club , and they don ’ t have any theater rules . Once , I hosted at a society that gave me an entire single-spaced page of do ’ s and put on ’ ts to cover .Don ’ t ask if anyone be celebrating a birthday . Serve talk about our drink promotions…
In general , remind mass to observe their phones in their pockets , on silent , or better so far , off . Remind them that heckling is disruptive and passé . When I host at Gotham Comedy Club , I ’ ll tell them that we ’ re taping these circle .
“ We ’ re taping the show tonight . The comics will review the tape so we can get comic . Some comics use the tapes to send in to late dark show . I ’ 1000 direct mine to my mamma as proof of living . ‘ How can we make these tapes great ? ’ you ask ? Laugh . That ’ s it . If you like a joke , laugh ; if you don ’ t like a joke , laugh harder . ”
When embrace house rules , I feel it helpful to insert a gag , thus theproof of livingline .
