Honestly , how act you even set out to review an Emily Henry book aside from* pterodactyl screech noises *and* unintelligible fluttery hand gestures *to properly get how much you enjoy it ?Simply when I think I couldn ’ t love her romcoms more , she become and writesFunny Story.
Since 2021 , I have not handle to find a single romance novel to exceed my obsession withPeople We Gather on Vacation–and I have record respective hundred romance .How Emily managed to crush her own volume cost perfectly beyond me .Funny Storynow takes first position in my favorite list .
As I was reading my eARC ( thank you , THANK YOU , Berkley ) I settle to highlight everything that stood out to me .Three paragraph into the first chapter and I was already highlighting a quote that had me snort with laughter .The rest of the volume made me feel exactly as giddy as those first few note and I managed to highlight virtually 40 quotes and lend countless notes .
Something that constantly strike me with Emily ’ s writing manner is that while she maintains a classical romcom expression ( meaning that the volume cost equally as funny as it is romantic ) , she doesn ’ t skimp on depth and emotion .I have cried nearly as many times as I have laughed while reading each of her novel andFunny Storywas no unlike .It dealt with themes like emotionally abusive category member and toxic romantic relationship .But it doesn ’ t hardly glaze over them or build them sense unimportant .They ’ re an intact part of the story and cover with so much grace .
This book as well devote me an component I never know I needed ( ? ) in an EmHen novel :feel family.It may have evidence in an untraditional sense , but it was absolutely share of the narrative and I really loved how it was cultivated and nurtured throughout the report .By the end of the book , I find as though Ashleigh ’ s friendship with Daphne was only as crucial as the romantic relationship with Miles .
If you ’ re looking for something feel-good that will make you laugh hence severe you nearly pee yourself , cry a little , and just fall in love with love all over again , you involve to blame upFunny Story.I have the good time always reading this script and I can ’ t wait to peck it up whenever I ’ m crave some surplus comfort . All the stars for this fantastic romcom !
* * Unrelated and semi-unimportant but fun fact time :A truly delightful part of this for me was that the Richmond they reference time and again is Richmond , Virginia… which exactly happens to exist where I was hold and raised and lived until 2021 . Consider it observe over and over build me really happy . Today , if only I could convince Emily to do more circuit stops there…
