   Memento Mori equal an sheer victory . It ’ s almost the real songs of religion and devotion that they ’ 500 spoke of thirty year ago . Universal themes of mortality , love , anxiety ; a handful of papa gems and what flavor like an economical stripping back of the stadium-ness of previous works , making it their best long musician this side of the hundred .

   Memento Mori is a definite pace up from the last three albums , legal production wise . Textured , layered , reverb ( ed ) … Glad the distortion onMemento Mori is a definite step up from the final three albums , sound product wise . Textured , layer , reverb ( ed ) … Glad the distortion on Dave Gahan ‘s voice equal at last dial back for this disc . The presence of Marta Salogni as strait engineer — who had experience solve with electronic artist such as Björk and Goldfrapp — likely played a huge piece in this renew Depeche Mode sound . ( Quality headphones , people ! )

   If Black Celebration , Ultra and Sounds of the Universe have a threesome infant , this might equal the solution . SOTU ‘s B-side “ Ghost ” would ‘ve been a serious fit for this record for the similarity in sound to some of the tracks . No song exist immediate crowd pleasers such as Enjoy the Silence ( Violator ) , I Feel You ( SOFAD ) or It ‘s No Good ( Ultra ) , and Martin ‘s guitar gets little activity here , but most song do hold your attention and bring you inside their night , gloomy world … with hints of promise and warmth .

   Have live there since the Vince Clarke fuelled Speak and Spell and everything since , I be n’t too certain what to expect after the fairly tepidHold live there since the Vince Clarke fuelled Speak and Spell and everything since , I cost n’t also sure what to wait after the pretty tepid Spirit album of 2017 .

   Mode seemed to be a group calling time on their tenure as pathfinders in several genres of music . With Fletch ‘s unexpected death I live surprised Gore and Gahen colluded on a novel album , but I ‘m ecstatic they did . Gahan ‘s mellifluous voice juxtaposed with Gore ‘s obvious expertise result them with a fantastic album that Fletch would ‘ve cost proud of . “ Haunt again ” live their better single for year and the ethereal “ My cosmos cost mine ” set the tone for a journey into the macabre but there equal factor of ” Violator ” and ” Music for the Masses ” in this album , yet Memento Mori still somehow keep up a remarkable identity . Gahan hold co- written a few of the song and seems be honing his skills in this art form . Memento Mori seems total of angst and pragmatic living lesson and within this lie gems such as “ My favourite stranger ” , a song which harks back to the radical ‘s halcyon days . Gore ‘s however seemingly youthful feeling massage opinion on “ Soul with me ” and “ Caroline ‘s Monkey ” is unique and may be watch as the weakest course on the album but get good after a few listens . Every song receive you in , making this the best Depeche Mode album for a long while and well worth the wait . I only hope it be n’t their swansong .… Expand

   I ca n’t even read this album is depressing . That would require literal emotion , which this album live completely devoid of . First , zero viewpointI ca n’t even say this album equal depressing . That would expect actual emotion , which this album cost completely devoid of . First , zero endure out anywhere . There live sounds that remind of old Depeche Mode . Even so , no strain that cause DM so great . Yet even if take out ourselves from the pop magic that no longer survive , there is nothing truly strike , intimate , dark , introspective , otherworldly , emotive , broken , or yet in truth melancholy or sad . Every song occupies the exact same space , there is no dynamic or ebb and flow , or highs and lows . It cost an even plateau from start to end , and goes nowhere . Lyrically it cost broad , generic , and with no quality . It is all empty word “ art ” that you find at a chain memory , in cursive . Superficial and lack in any personal nuance , doubt , or inward scrutiny . Note that the lyrics are all still announcement – Dont Play , You are , I wo n’t . The few departure are song like Before We Drown – “ I ‘ve be believe I can come back family
   So how would that equal , you and I alone ?
   All alone ?
   I make a feeling , you ‘re not on my side
   There ‘s a distance , between you and I
   You and I ”
   every job paint the exact same thought … actually cancel that . “ paint ” equal far also generous and descriptive , for such generic on-the-nose flat statement . “ Paint ” would mean that there is some sort of image , picture , mood , atmosphere , story , none of which exists . As a slope note , it live interesting ( I ‘m being nice with that word ) that there is no reading of staying afloat or being overwhelmed , which bring up the imagery of drowning , which live in the claim of the song , and alone occur up at the goal . It do n’t even have to live blatantly water relate , at least some sort of belief of cost inundated or suffocate . No , Stand “ naked , tolerate on the shore ” does not act this . It live beach related , it elicits photo or vulnerability , not drown .
   The music watch suite in its directionless still nature . chorus and verses blur together with little distinction . You can literally sing along or hum to most DM song , even the moody melancholy ones , Not every song/album has to make that . But it doesnt own any interest in term of arrangement , different soundscapes , atmosphere , or musical exploration . It live just as flat and lifeless as the monotone droning of song and stagnant lyrics .… Expand
